All you want to know about Malaysia

Malaysia from Kerala โ€” Cities, Islands and Highlands in One Trip

For travellers from Kerala, Malaysia is one of the easiest international holidays to plan. Direct flights from Kochi and Trivandrum reach Kuala Lumpur in around 4 hours, there is no jet lag worth mentioning, and the country packs a modern capital, a colonial-era island, rainforest highlands and some of Southeast Asia's best beaches into a short trip. Food is a bonus for Kerala families: halal and vegetarian options are everywhere, and Malaysia's large Indian community means a good South Indian meal is never far away.

Mapshore's Malaysia holidays are built around the routes Kerala travellers actually ask for โ€” Kuala Lumpur plus Genting, Kuala Lumpur plus Langkawi, or a KL and Singapore combination. Hotels, transfers and sightseeing are handled for you, so you land and the trip is already running.

Where to Go in Malaysia

  • Kuala Lumpur โ€” Petronas Twin Towers, Batu Caves, KL Tower, Bukit Bintang shopping and the street-food lanes of Jalan Alor. Most itineraries start with 2 to 3 nights here.
  • Genting Highlands โ€” a cool hill resort about an hour from KL, with a cable car, theme park and indoor attractions. Easy day trip or one night stay.
  • Langkawi โ€” a duty-free island with beaches, mangrove boat tours, the Sky Bridge and island-hopping. The usual pick for honeymooners.
  • Penang (George Town) โ€” heritage streets, street art, temples and some of the best food in the country. Better for slow, food-led trips.
  • Cameron Highlands โ€” tea estates, strawberry farms and misty mornings; a good break from the heat if you have 6 nights or more.

The classic first-timer route is 3 nights Kuala Lumpur + 2 nights Langkawi, or 4 nights KL with a Genting day trip if you prefer a city and family-attraction holiday. See the current Malaysia tour package from Kerala for dates and inclusions.

Malaysia Visa for Indians โ€” Check the Current Rule

Malaysia has run a visa-free entry arrangement for Indian passport holders for short tourist stays (up to 30 days), but it has been extended in fixed windows rather than made permanent. Before you book, confirm that it is still in force for your travel dates on the official Malaysia Immigration or Tourism Malaysia portal. Separately, you must complete the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) online within 3 days before arrival. Your passport needs at least 6 months of validity and a confirmed return ticket. If the visa-free window has closed, a Malaysia eVisa is the fallback. Mapshore checks the rule at booking and tells you exactly what to file. For other countries, browse our visa guides.

What's Included in Mapshore Malaysia Packages

  • Hotel accommodation, from 3-star to 5-star depending on tier
  • Airport transfers and private or shared sightseeing transfers
  • City tour of Kuala Lumpur, Batu Caves and a Petronas Towers photo stop
  • Genting cable car or Langkawi island-hopping, where the route includes them

International flights, attraction tickets marked as optional and visa-related fees are quoted separately. Ask for a combined flight and package price if you prefer a single quote.

Flights, Budget and Money

Kochi and Trivandrum both have direct or one-stop services to Kuala Lumpur, with a typical journey of 4 to 5 hours depending on routing. The Malaysian Ringgit trades at roughly โ‚น19 to โ‚น21 per MYR, so check the day's rate before you travel. Outside your package, budget around MYR 120 to 200 per person per day for meals, local transport and shopping. Malaysia is generally cheaper than Singapore and comparable to Thailand.

Do Indians need a visa for Malaysia?

At the time of writing, Indian passport holders have been able to enter Malaysia visa-free for up to 30 days for tourism, subject to the validity period of the current exemption. Rules change, so always check the official immigration portal before paying for flights. You also need to submit the MDAC arrival card online, carry a passport valid for at least 6 months and show a return or onward ticket.

What is the best time to visit Malaysia from Kerala?

Malaysia is warm year-round, so the question is rain. The west coast (Kuala Lumpur, Langkawi, Penang) is driest from December to March, with heavier rain in September and October. The east coast islands have a monsoon from November to February, so keep them for May to September. For a standard KL plus Langkawi trip, December to February and June to August work best, and school holidays in India fall in good weather.

How many days is enough for a Malaysia trip from India?

A 5 night trip covers Kuala Lumpur and Genting comfortably. 6 to 7 nights lets you add Langkawi or Penang for beach or heritage time. If you want Singapore as well, plan 7 to 8 nights and take the short flight or bus link between the two cities. Most families find 6 nights the best balance of sightseeing and rest.
