Philippines from Kerala โ€” Island Holidays Beyond the Usual Circuit

For travellers from Kerala and South India who have already done Thailand, Bali and Singapore, the Philippines is the logical next step. It is an archipelago of more than 7,000 islands, and most holidays focus on three: Palawan for limestone lagoons and the underground river, Cebu for waterfall canyons and whale shark and sardine-run diving, and Boracay for its long white-sand beach. English is widely spoken, prices are lower than the Maldives, and the crowds are thinner than in Phuket.

The trade-off is logistics. Most Indian travellers connect through a hub rather than flying direct, and the islands are separated by domestic flights and ferries. A well-planned package matters more here than in Bangkok or Dubai, because a missed ferry or an unplanned airport transfer can cost half a day. Mapshore's Philippines holidays are built around fixed transfers, domestic flights where needed, and hotel locations that keep daily travel short.

Where to Go in the Philippines

  • Manila โ€” the arrival gateway. Intramuros, Rizal Park and the Makati food scene are worth a night or a long layover, but most holidaymakers move on quickly.
  • El Nido and Coron, Palawan โ€” island-hopping tours across lagoons, hidden beaches and clear shallow water. El Nido suits couples and photographers; Coron adds wreck diving and Kayangan Lake. Puerto Princesa is the base for the Underground River.
  • Cebu and Bohol โ€” Kawasan Falls, Oslob and Moalboal, plus Bohol's Chocolate Hills and tarsiers. A good fit for families and first-time visitors because the sights are close together.
  • Boracay โ€” White Beach, sunset sailing and water sports. The most resort-like option, with the widest range of hotels and restaurants.

A sensible first trip is 6 to 8 nights: 2 nights Manila or Cebu, plus 4 to 5 nights split between Palawan and one other island. Trying to fit Palawan, Cebu and Boracay into 5 nights means three flights and very little beach time.

Visa for Indians

Rules for Indian passport holders have changed several times in recent years, and they depend on your passport validity, return ticket and, in some cases, whether you hold a valid visa for the US, UK, Schengen area, Japan, Australia or Canada. Before you book, check the current requirement on the official Philippine embassy or Bureau of Immigration portal. Every traveller also needs to complete the online eTravel registration within 72 hours of arrival. Mapshore confirms visa requirements for your travel dates when you enquire, and our visa desk can help with documents where a visa is needed.

Flights from Kochi, Bengaluru and Delhi

Direct flights from India to Manila are limited and have changed from season to season, so check current schedules when booking. The usual routing is a connection through Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok or Hong Kong. From Kochi or Bengaluru, expect 9 to 13 hours door to door including the layover. From Delhi, with a good connection, it can be a little shorter. Pick a layover of at least 2.5 hours for self-booked tickets; if the two legs are on separate bookings, a delay on the first one will not be covered by the second airline.

Domestic hops to Palawan, Cebu or Boracay add 1 to 1.5 hours by air. Boracay is reached through Caticlan or Kalibo airports, followed by a boat or road transfer. Allow a full day for that leg.

Best Time to Visit

The dry season runs from November to May and is the best window for Palawan and Boracay. December to February is cooler and the busiest. March to May is hotter but has the calmest seas for island tours. June to October brings the southwest monsoon and typhoon risk, with ferry and tour cancellations in Boracay and Palawan. Cebu and Bohol stay more workable in this period. For Indian school holidays, book April and May early because flights and hotels fill up.

Budget and What to Expect

Outside your package, budget roughly โ‚น3,000 to โ‚น5,000 per person per day for meals, local transport and small activities. Philippine pesos are best bought at the destination or withdrawn from ATMs; carry small notes for tricycles and market stalls. Island-hopping tours, environmental fees and some park entry charges are often not included in the base price, so check the inclusions on the itinerary page. Vegetarian food is available in tourist areas, but it is worth telling the hotel in advance. Look at our Philippines tour or browse all Philippines packages.

Do Indians need a visa for the Philippines?

It depends on current rules and your travel history, which have changed more than once. Some Indian passport holders can enter visa-free for a short stay under specific conditions, while others need a tourist visa. Always confirm on the official Philippine embassy or Bureau of Immigration portal before booking, and complete the eTravel registration online before departure. Mapshore can confirm the requirement for your dates when you enquire.

What is the best time to visit the Philippines from India?

November to May is the best period, with dry weather and calm seas for island hopping in Palawan and Boracay. December to February is the most comfortable. June to October is monsoon and typhoon season, so boat tours and ferries are often cancelled. If you must travel in those months, Cebu and Bohol are the safer choices.

How many days are enough for the Philippines from Kerala?

6 to 8 nights works for most first trips: a night or two in Manila or Cebu, then Palawan and one more island. A 5-night trip should cover just one island group. With 9 or 10 nights you can add Boracay or Bohol without rushing the domestic flights.
