Do Indian Citizens Need a Czech Republic Visa?

Yes. Holders of an ordinary Indian passport need a Schengen visa to enter the Czech Republic. Czechia is a Schengen member, so a short-stay Schengen visa (type C) issued by the Czech authorities lets you travel in Prague, Brno, Český Krumlov, Karlovy Vary and the other Schengen states for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. There is no visa on arrival and no e-visa for Indians.

If you searched for a Czech visa from India, here is the route. You complete the Czech short-stay visa application form, book an appointment at the VFS Global Czech Republic visa application centre, submit your documents and biometrics in person, pay the visa fee and the service fee, and wait for the decision. The passport is returned with a visa sticker if approved.

Czechia is often a good Schengen choice for first-time Europe travellers from Kerala. Prague is a short flight connection from Gulf hubs and from European airports, the cost of living is lower than in Paris or Switzerland, and the consulate handles a smaller volume than the very busiest Schengen countries. But the rule that decides the country you apply to is not convenience. It is where you spend the most nights, or the first point of entry if nights are equal. Apply to the Czech Republic only if it is your genuine main destination.

Fees, centres and timelines can change, and agent websites repeat old figures. Where something on this page can move, we say so and ask you to confirm it on the official VFS Global Czech Republic India page or the website of the Czech embassy. Mapshore checks the live position for every client before filing.

Czech Republic Visa Types for Indian Travellers

Most Indian tourists need only the short-stay Schengen visa, but the type depends on your trip.

  • Short-stay Schengen visa (type C), single entry: The standard choice for a holiday that enters and leaves the Schengen area once. Valid for the dates you request.
  • Short-stay Schengen visa, double or multiple entry: For trips that leave and re-enter the Schengen area, for example Prague then a side trip to a non-Schengen country and back. Multiple-entry validity is granted at the consulate’s discretion, usually after a record of earlier Schengen travel.
  • Airport transit visa (type A): Needed in limited cases when changing planes in a Czech airport for an onward flight. Check whether your nationality and route require it.
  • Family and friends visit: The same type C visa, supported by an invitation from the host and proof of their status in the Czech Republic.
  • Business visa: Type C for meetings and fairs, with an invitation from the Czech company and your employer’s letter.
  • National long-stay visa (type D): For study, work and stays longer than 90 days. Different documents and a different process, and not covered on this page.

For a holiday of one to three weeks the single-entry short-stay visa is correct. Request the dates you really intend to travel, because the visa is valid for those dates and not for an open period.

Czech Republic Visa Requirements and Documents for Indian Passport Holders

The Czech authorities follow the Schengen Visa Code and publish their own checklist through VFS Global. The list below is what we prepare for a standard tourist file from India. Always check the current VFS Global checklist as well, since consulates can add items.

  • Passport: Valid for at least 3 months after you leave the Schengen area, issued within the last 10 years, with at least two blank pages. Include copies of old passports that carry earlier visas.
  • Visa application form: Completed and signed. Details must match the passport exactly.
  • Photographs: Recent colour photos to the Schengen standard, usually 35 x 45 mm on a plain light background.
  • Travel medical insurance: Schengen insurance with cover of at least EUR 30,000 for emergency medical care and repatriation, valid for the whole stay and every Schengen state.
  • Flight reservation: Return or onward flight reservation that matches the dates on the form. A refundable reservation is usually fine until the visa is granted.
  • Accommodation: Hotel bookings for the full stay, or an invitation and host details if you stay with relatives or friends in the Czech Republic.
  • Day-by-day itinerary: A plain plan that matches the bookings. If you visit more than one Schengen country, the plan must show that the Czech Republic is the main destination.
  • Bank statements: Usually the last 6 months of personal statements, showing regular income and a balance that fits the cost of the trip.
  • Income tax returns: ITR acknowledgements for the last 2 or 3 years, with Form 16 for salaried applicants.
  • Employer letter and NOC: States your job, salary, joining date and approved leave. Students need a bonafide certificate and leave from the institution.
  • Self-employed proof: Business registration, GST certificate, ITR and business bank statements.
  • Ties to India: Property papers, fixed deposits, marriage and birth certificates and anything else showing a settled life that you will return to.
  • Previous visas: Copies of earlier Schengen, UK, US, Canada and other visas.
  • Minors: Birth certificate, parents’ passports, consent letter from a parent who is not travelling and school letter.

Every name, date and address must be the same across the form, the passport, the tickets and the hotel bookings. Kerala passports often print initials first. Copy the passport line by line and do not expand or reorder names.

Czech Republic Visa Fees from India 2026

The Schengen visa fee is set in euros and paid at the application centre along with the centre’s own service fee. The adult fee has been EUR 90 since June 2024, the fee for children aged 6 to 11 is EUR 45 and under-sixes are free of the visa fee, but many older agent pages still show EUR 80. The service fee varies by centre and is revised from time to time. Confirm every figure on the VFS Global Czech Republic India page the day you book.

Item Indicative cost Paid to Notes
Schengen visa fee, adult EUR 90 Czech authorities, collected by the centre Not refunded if the visa is refused. Paid in rupees at the centre’s rate.
Schengen visa fee, child 6 to 11 EUR 45 As above Children under 6 do not pay the visa fee.
VFS service fee Set by VFS (confirm) VFS Global Charged per applicant at submission. Check the current amount.
Optional services Varies VFS Global Courier return, SMS tracking, premium lounge. Not compulsory.
Travel insurance Varies by age and length Insurer Needs at least EUR 30,000 cover. Buy before you submit.
Mapshore service charge Shown before you commit Mapshore Itemised separately from every government fee.

As a rough guide, EUR 90 converts to a little under or over ₹9,000 depending on the day’s rate. Third-party agents add a service charge on top of government fees. That is fair when it is itemised. Mapshore lists the government fee, the centre fee and our own charge on separate lines.

How to Apply for a Czech Republic Visa from India Step by Step

The steps are the same whether you apply yourself or with an agent. Allow a couple of evenings to gather documents, since bank statements and NOCs take time.

Confirm Czechia and book the appointment

Count nights per country. Apply to the Czech Republic if it has the most nights, or if nights are equal and it is your first point of entry into the Schengen area.

Complete the application form

Fill in the Czech short-stay visa form carefully and print it. Sign it where required. Use the passport as your only source for names and numbers.

Prepare your documents

Gather the passport, photographs, insurance, flight reservation, hotel bookings, itinerary, bank statements, ITR, employer letter and ties. Arrange them in the order of the checklist.

Book your VFS appointment

Book a slot at the VFS Global Czech Republic centre you will attend. Slots are released on a rolling basis, so book as soon as your plans are firm. You may apply up to 6 months before travel and not later than 15 days before.

Attend with biometrics

Go to the centre on the day with your original documents and copies. Fingerprints and a photograph are taken. First-time applicants must attend in person.

Pay the fees

Pay the visa fee and the centre fee at the counter as instructed by the centre. Keep every receipt and the tracking number.

Track the application

Use the tracking number on the VFS site. The consulate can request an interview or extra documents, so keep your phone and email active.

Collect the passport and check the visa

When the passport is returned, check name, dates, number of entries and validity on the visa before you book anything non-refundable.

A good lodging window is 4 to 8 weeks before departure. Do not book non-refundable tickets or hotels until the visa is granted. Applying too early also risks a visa that expires before the trip when you cannot control the decision date.

VFS Global Czech Republic Centres in India and Help in Kerala

Czech visa applications from India are submitted at VFS Global visa application centres. The Czech embassy in New Delhi and the consulate network decide the application, not the centre. Locations, opening hours and the list of centres change, so confirm them on the VFS Global Czech Republic India page before you book a slot.

Item What to expect Practical note
Centres VFS Global centres in several Indian cities Typically cities such as New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Kolkata. Confirm the current list.
Nearest for Kerala Often Chennai or Bengaluru Most Kerala applicants travel for one day. Check whether a closer centre is currently open.
Appointment Booked online Walk-ins are not usually accepted. Rescheduling rules apply.
Biometrics In person Required at the first application and valid for a period afterwards, as the visa system allows.
Decision Made by the Czech authorities Not by VFS and not by an agent.
Passport return Collected at the centre or couriered Choose the option you prefer at submission.

Mapshore has visa desks in Kochi and Calicut where you can bring documents for a check before your slot, and our team assists applicants in Thiruvananthapuram and Kannur by WhatsApp and phone. We can also help you choose between a Czech application and a Schengen application through another country when Prague is only part of a longer European plan.

Czech Republic Visa Processing Time from India

Most Czech Schengen visa applications from India are decided in roughly 10 to 15 calendar days after you submit your file at the centre, in line with the standard decision period of 15 calendar days in the Schengen Visa Code. This is a guide and not a promise, so do not buy non-refundable tickets on that assumption.

  • Longer decisions: A file that needs more checks, an interview or extra documents can take longer. The Visa Code allows an extended period in individual cases.
  • Peak season: Applications for May to August and the December holidays are heavier. Apply earlier for these windows.
  • Incomplete files: Missing documents or inconsistent dates trigger requests that slow the decision.
  • Holidays: Czech public holidays and Indian holidays affect courier and consulate working days.
  • No priority service: The Czech authorities do not offer a paid fast track for tourist visas, and no agent can speed up a decision.

The practical advice is to submit at least 4 to 6 weeks before you want to fly, and to keep flights and hotels refundable until the visa is in your passport.

Financial Requirements and Entry Checks for the Czech Republic

The Schengen Visa Code requires you to show enough funds for the stay and the return journey. The Czech authorities set a daily reference amount and the figure is revised, so check the current rule with the centre. We therefore give working guidance, not an official number.

  • Budget rule of thumb: This is our own guide, not an official figure. Czechia is cheaper than Western Europe, so many travellers budget the equivalent of roughly ₹6,000 to ₹9,000 per person per day for mid-range travel, plus the return flight, and show savings that cover this with a margin.
  • Six-month history: Show regular salary credits that match the payslips. A large deposit just before applying needs a source document.
  • Sponsored trips: If a relative or friend pays, include their invitation, passport copy, bank statements and a sponsorship letter.
  • Self-employed applicants: Show business bank statements, GST returns and ITR to prove income.
  • Insurance: Mandatory. Minimum EUR 30,000 cover valid across the Schengen area.
  • At the border: Carry the visa, return ticket, hotel bookings, insurance and some cash or a card. Border staff can ask about funds and purpose.
  • Entry system: The Schengen area has been rolling out the Entry/Exit System with fingerprints and facial images at the border. Allow extra time at the airport.

A strong file shows modest, consistent finances, a settled job or business in India, a clean travel record and a plan that costs what you can afford.

Common Reasons a Czech Republic Visa Is Delayed or Refused

Most refusals come from a few repeating patterns.

  • Wrong country of application: Applying to the Czech Republic when most nights are elsewhere. This is among the most common avoidable errors.
  • Doubt about return: Weak ties such as a new job, no property, no dependants or a thin travel history.
  • Insufficient or unexplained funds: A balance that does not fit the trip or deposits without a source.
  • Inconsistent documents: Leave dates, job titles, salary or addresses that differ between papers.
  • Unclear purpose or accommodation: No convincing itinerary, or hotel bookings that do not cover the stay.
  • Insurance problems: Cover below EUR 30,000, wrong dates or exclusions.
  • Passport issues: Less than 3 months’ validity after departure, fewer than two blank pages, or a passport older than 10 years.
  • Previous overstays or refusals: Not declared on the form. Always declare.
  • Fake bookings: Fabricated tickets or hotel reservations. These are checked and can lead to a refusal and a longer ban.

A refusal comes with a written reason and the right to appeal under the stated procedure. Appeals are slow, so many applicants correct the weakness and apply again. Mapshore can read your refusal letter and tell you honestly whether to reapply or appeal.

Visa Validity, 90/180 Rule and Conditions of Stay

The visa sticker states the validity dates, the number of entries and the permitted days. Read it before you leave the centre, as errors are easier to fix then.

  • The 90/180 rule: You may stay up to 90 days in any 180-day period across the whole Schengen area. Days in other Schengen countries count. Use the official calculator if you travel often.
  • Validity dates: You must enter and leave within the printed dates. A late flight on the last day can leave you overstaying.
  • Entries: A single-entry visa ends once you leave the Schengen area, even if days remain.
  • Other Schengen countries: The visa lets you travel to all Schengen states, but the Czech Republic should remain your main destination, or the first entry point if nights are equal.
  • No work: Paid work is not permitted on a tourist visa.
  • Overstay: Overstaying brings fines, possible removal and a ban on re-entry.
  • Carry your documents: Insurance, bookings and funds can be checked at any point.
  • Local rules: Respect local laws, including rules on drones and on photography near sensitive sites.

If you plan to add a country with its own visa process, check that country’s rules. For other European options, see our guides for the Schengen visa from India, the France visa and the Spain visa.

No. Indian passport holders must hold a visa before travel. Be careful with websites offering an e-visa or visa on arrival for Czechia.

Do children need their own visa?

Yes. Every traveller needs a visa, and children need consent letters if travelling without both parents.

Can I extend a Czech Schengen visa?

Extensions are possible only in exceptional cases such as force majeure or serious personal reasons. Plan to leave on time.

What if my Czech visa is refused?

You receive written reasons and the right to appeal. Many applicants fix the weakness and reapply. The visa fee is not refunded.

Why choose Mapshore for your Czech Republic visa from India

We have filed this before

Mapshore has been arranging visas alongside flights and holidays since 2005, so the checklist we hand you is the one that is working at that consulate now.

Your file is checked before it goes in

We read every document against the current requirement list first. Most straightforward refusals come down to a missing statement or a photo at the wrong size, and those are cheap to catch early.

Honest timelines, not best cases

We tell you the turnaround to plan around for your nationality and the season you are travelling in, and we say so early if your dates are too tight to be safe.

A refusal is not the end of it

Bring us the refusal letter. We work out which ground it was refused on, fix that specific thing, and file again rather than resubmitting the same file.

One named person on your file

You deal with the consultant handling your application rather than a queue, and we still pick up when something shifts mid-holiday.

Czech Republic visa questions from India

Yes, Indian applicants can reapply for a Czech Republic Schengen visa from India after a refusal by fixing the reason in the refusal letter with stronger Indian financial proof and itinerary. You can also appeal within the deadline from India. Bring your letter to Mapshore in Kerala and we advise whether to appeal or prepare a fresh file from India.

Yes, travel insurance is mandatory for a Czech Republic Schengen visa from India, covering at least EUR 30,000 for medical emergencies and repatriation across Schengen for the entire trip from India. Policies bought in India must show dates, coverage and your name. Mapshore in Kerala verifies your insurance meets the Czech and VFS India checklist before lodging.

Czech Republic Schengen visa processing from India is typically 10 to 20 working days after submission at VFS Global India, longer in Indian summer and holiday periods. The consulate may request extra Indian documents, which restarts the clock. Apply at least four weeks before travel from India and up to six months ahead to secure a VFS India appointment.

From India the Czech Republic Schengen fee is EUR 90 for adults and EUR 45 for children aged six to eleven, free under six, set by the EU visa code. You also pay the VFS Global India service charge and optional courier in rupees. Fees paid from India are non refundable even if the Czech consulate refuses the visa after assessment.

From India you need a passport valid three months beyond return, completed Schengen form and photo, six months of Indian bank statements, employment proof in India, confirmed flights, hotels and insurance and a cover letter. Your Indian residence details help. Mapshore in Kerala checks your Indian file against the current VFS checklist before submission.

From India a Czech Republic Schengen visa allows up to 90 days within any 180 day period across all Schengen states, not per country, as issued in India. The sticker shows validity and duration of stay, which are different. Count all Schengen trips from India within 180 days; overstaying in the Czech Republic affects future Schengen applications from India.
