Do Indian Citizens Need an Oman Tourist Visa?
Yes. Holders of an ordinary Indian passport need a visa to enter the Sultanate of Oman unless they qualify for one of the limited exemptions described later on this page. For leisure travel the visa is issued electronically by the Royal Oman Police (ROP) through its official e-visa portal, so there is no embassy visit, no courier of passports and no sticker in the passport. You apply online, pay online, receive a PDF by email and show it at the airline check-in desk and at Muscat immigration.
For Kerala travellers this is one of the simplest Gulf visas to obtain. Oman is a short flight from Kochi, Kozhikode (Calicut), Thiruvananthapuram and Kannur, the e-visa is normally decided within a few working days, and the fee is small compared with a European or UK visa. The risk lies not in the difficulty of the process but in the small errors that cause delays: a passport photo in the wrong format, a name that does not match the passport, a missing hotel booking or an expired passport. This guide explains each step so your file is right the first time.
Oman rules and fee categories change from time to time, and agencies often repeat outdated figures. Wherever a figure on this page can change, we say so and ask you to confirm it on the official ROP e-visa portal before paying. Mapshore verifies the live position for every client before we file an application.
Apply NowOman Visa Types Available to Indian Travellers
The ROP portal offers several categories. Which ones are open to Indian passport holders, and at what price, is set by the authorities and can be revised, so treat the list below as a guide to the common routes rather than a guarantee.
- Tourist e-visa, 30 days, single entry: The standard choice for holidays, sightseeing and family trips of up to a month. It is the category most Kerala travellers apply for. The commonly quoted government fee is OMR 20, and many 30-day visas can be extended once from inside Oman through ROP.
- Short-stay tourist e-visa, 10 days: Historically offered at a much lower fee for very short trips. Some sources say the category has been withdrawn or changed, so confirm on the portal whether it is currently available to Indian passport holders.
- One-year multiple-entry tourist visa: A longer validity visa for repeat visitors, normally at a higher fee. Each stay is still limited to a fixed number of days. Useful for frequent business and leisure travellers, but check current eligibility on the portal.
- Family visit visa: For travellers visiting relatives who live in Oman. It normally requires a sponsor who holds an Omani residence permit and who files the request. This is common for Kerala families with relatives in Muscat, Sohar and Salalah.
- Business visit visa: For meetings, site visits and trade fairs. It usually needs a sponsoring company in Oman and a supporting letter.
- Express or fast-track processing: Offered by some channels for urgent travel. Confirm the surcharge and the promised timeline before relying on it.
If your plan is a conventional holiday of 4 to 10 days, the 30-day single-entry tourist e-visa is almost always the right answer. A longer or multiple-entry visa only makes sense if you expect to return within the year.
Oman Visa Requirements and Documents for Indian Passport Holders
The e-visa is a document upload process. Prepare clear digital scans before you open the form, because the portal can time out and file-size limits are strict. The following are expected for a standard tourist application from India.
- Passport: Valid for at least 6 months from the date you plan to enter Oman, with at least one blank page. Upload the bio data page as a clear colour scan, not a photograph taken at an angle.
- Passport-size photograph: A recent colour photo with a plain white background, face fully visible, no glasses glare and no shadows. Poor dimensions or a cropped head are among the most common reasons for a returned application.
- Return or onward flight ticket: A confirmed booking that shows when you leave Oman. Oman immigration expects proof that you will depart within the visa period.
- Hotel booking or accommodation proof: A confirmed hotel reservation for the first nights, or an address and host details if you are staying with relatives. Your dates should match the flights exactly.
- Travel insurance or health cover: Oman requires visitors to hold health insurance valid in the country. Check on the portal whether proof is requested at the application stage or whether it is bought during the process, and carry a copy either way.
- Bank statement: Not always uploaded for a tourist e-visa, but keep 6 months of statements and a recent salary slip or business proof with you. Officers can ask about funds at arrival.
- Employment or business proof: An employer letter, or for self-employed applicants a trade licence, GST registration or ITR acknowledgment. This supports your return intention.
- Sponsor documents (family visit only): Copy of the sponsor's Omani residence card (Resident Card) and passport, plus proof of relationship.
- Previous visas (optional): A scan of earlier Gulf, US, UK or Schengen visas can help if you plan to use the visa-free route for such visa holders, described below.
Names must be identical on the passport, the ticket, the hotel booking and the visa form. A middle name missing from one document is enough to trigger a manual check. Kerala passports often carry the initial first and the family name second, so read the passport line by line and copy exactly what is printed.
Oman Visa Fees from India 2026
The government fee is paid online by card when you submit the application. Fees are set in Omani rial (OMR) and your bank converts them to rupees at its own rate, so the final charge varies with the exchange rate and your card's foreign transaction fee. Government fees are not refunded if a visa is declined. Confirm every figure below on the ROP portal on the day you apply.
| Visa category | Indicative government fee | Typical validity | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tourist e-visa, single entry | About OMR 20 | 30 days stay | Extendable once in many cases. The category most Kerala travellers use. |
| Short-stay tourist e-visa | About OMR 5 | 10 days stay | Availability has changed over time. Check the portal. |
| Multiple-entry tourist visa | About OMR 50 | 1 year validity | Per-visit stay limit applies. Check eligibility. |
| Family visit visa | Set by ROP, filed by sponsor | Varies | Needs a sponsor with Omani residency. |
| Express processing | Varies by channel | As per visa | Confirm surcharge and timeline before paying. |
As a rough guide, OMR 20 converts to between ₹4,500 and ₹5,500 depending on the day's rate. Beware of any website that quotes a very different government fee. Third-party agents add a service charge on top of the government fee, which is legitimate if the service is clear and itemised. Mapshore shows the government fee and our service charge as separate lines before you commit.
A new category was reported in 2026 that would offer a short free tourist stay to selected nationalities. We could not confirm from an official source whether Indian citizens are included, so do not plan around it. Check the ROP portal for the current list.
How to Apply for the Oman E-Visa Step by Step
The process is the same whether you file yourself or through an agent. Allow about 30 to 45 minutes the first time.
Open the official portal
Use the Royal Oman Police e-visa site (evisa.rop.gov.om). Imitation sites with similar names exist, so type the address yourself and do not follow ads.
Choose the visa type
Select the tourist category and the duration that matches your trip. Confirm that Indian nationality is shown as eligible for the option you select.
Fill in the personal and passport details
Enter your name exactly as printed in the passport, with passport number, issue and expiry dates, place of birth and occupation.
Enter travel details
Add your arrival date, flight number, port of entry (for example Muscat International Airport), the address of your first hotel and your intended length of stay.
Upload documents
Attach the passport scan, photograph and any requested bookings in the required formats and sizes.
Pay the fee
Pay by credit or debit card enabled for international transactions. Ask your bank in advance to avoid declined payments, which are a very common problem for first-time applicants in Kerala.
Track the application
Note the reference number. Status updates appear on the portal and by email.
Download and print the visa
When approved, save the PDF and print a paper copy. Keep a copy on your phone as well.
Apply after your flights and hotel are confirmed but not too early. A good window is 5 to 20 days before departure. Do not apply so early that the visa validity runs out before you travel, because the entry window starts from the issue date.
Where Kerala Travellers Fly From and Where to Get Help
There is no consulate appointment for the e-visa, so there are no visa centres in the sense of VFS Global. The practical question for Kerala is where to fly from and where to get help with the paperwork.
| Kerala airport | Flights to Oman | Useful for |
|---|---|---|
| Kochi (COK) | Direct flights to Muscat on several airlines, usually daily | Central and south Kerala, Ernakulam, Kottayam, Thrissur |
| Kozhikode / Calicut (CCJ) | Direct flights to Muscat and in some seasons Salalah | Malabar, Malappuram, Kannur, Wayanad |
| Thiruvananthapuram (TRV) | Direct flights to Muscat | South Kerala, Kollam, Alappuzha, Tamil Nadu border districts |
| Kannur (CNN) | Direct flights to Muscat on selected carriers | North Malabar, Kasaragod, Coorg |
Flight schedules and operators change by season, so confirm them at booking. Flight time from Kerala to Muscat is typically around 3 hours 30 minutes to 4 hours. Mapshore has visa desks in Kochi and Calicut where you can bring your documents for a check before the application is filed. You can also complete the process online with our team on WhatsApp or phone, which suits applicants in Thiruvananthapuram and Kannur.
Oman Visa Processing Time from India
Most standard tourist e-visas are decided within a few working days, and many are approved in 24 to 72 hours when the file is clean. The ROP portal states the processing period for each category and that is the figure to follow. Plan for up to 5 working days as a safe margin and do not book non-refundable tickets until you have an approved visa or are comfortable with the risk.
- Weekends and Omani public holidays: Applications submitted on a Friday or before Omani national holidays and Eid take longer. Oman's working week runs Sunday to Thursday.
- Peak seasons: October to March is peak tourist season, and Kerala school holiday periods, Onam and Christmas see heavy filing. Apply earlier in those windows.
- Returned applications: A rejected photo or unreadable passport scan resets the clock. Re-upload promptly and keep the same reference.
- Urgent travel: Express channels exist at extra cost. Confirm what is actually guaranteed. A promise of approval in hours is only as good as the written terms.
Visa-Free and Exempt Routes for Indians
Some Indian travellers can enter Oman for short stays without a standard tourist e-visa. The commonly published rule allows Indian passport holders who hold a valid visa or residence permit from certain countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, Schengen states, Canada, Australia and Japan, to enter for up to 14 days without applying for a separate Oman visa. Conditions usually include a minimum validity on the existing visa, a confirmed hotel booking and a return ticket.
These conditions are applied by airline staff at check-in, and the exact country list and validity requirement are set by ROP. Do not rely on a blog post or an agent's memory. Check the official ROP page, and ask your airline to confirm before you buy a ticket. If the airline refuses boarding, the cost falls on you. A common outcome is that we advise clients to apply for the e-visa anyway, because the fee is modest and the certainty is worth more than the saving.
Seafarers, flight crew and diplomatic passport holders follow different rules and are not covered by this page. Also note that transit rules at Muscat airport are separate: a short airside connection in the same airport usually does not need a visa, but leaving the terminal does.
Financial Requirements and Entry Checks at Muscat
Oman does not publish a fixed minimum bank balance for tourists, and the e-visa does not normally require a bank statement upload. Immigration officers retain the right to ask about funds, accommodation and the purpose of your trip at arrival. Honest, consistent answers backed by documents are what matter.
- Reasonable funds: Carry proof that you can cover your stay. As a working figure, budget the equivalent of ₹6,000 to ₹10,000 per person per day for mid-range travel, plus your return flight. A balance of ₹75,000 to ₹1.5 lakh per traveller for a week is a sensible comfort level.
- Cash and cards: Oman accepts major credit cards in cities. Carry some Omani rial for rural areas, souqs and tips. Indian rupee cards usually work with international enabled settings, but notify your bank.
- Accommodation proof: Printed hotel confirmation with address and phone number. Officers frequently ask where you will stay on the first night.
- Return ticket: Required. One-way travel without proof of onward departure is often questioned and sometimes refused boarding.
- Itinerary: A simple day plan helps if you are asked. For desert camps, Wahiba Sands or Jebel Akhdar, keep the booking vouchers.
- Insurance: Keep the policy copy and emergency number. Choose cover that includes medical evacuation if you plan hiking or desert activities.
Indian travellers with a first-time international trip are not at a disadvantage in Oman. The checks are mostly procedural. The practical risk is carrying incomplete printouts and being unable to answer a simple question about where you are staying.
Common Reasons an Oman E-Visa Is Delayed or Refused
Refusal rates for correctly completed tourist e-visa applications are low, but problems do occur. Most arise from avoidable errors.
- Photo problems: Wrong size, background colour or head position. Use a studio photo, not a cropped selfie.
- Name mismatch: Differences between passport, ticket and form. Even a single missing character may trigger a manual review.
- Passport validity: Less than 6 months remaining, or no blank pages. Renew before you apply.
- Missing return ticket or accommodation: Incomplete travel plans suggest weak intent to return.
- Wrong visa category: Applying for a tourist visa while travelling for paid work, or applying as tourist when you need a sponsored family visa.
- Payment issues: Declined or double charged cards. Check your account before re-trying, because a second payment can be taken without a visa being generated.
- Previous overstay or immigration issues: A record of overstaying in a Gulf country or deportation can lead to refusal. Be honest on the form.
- Fake or imitation websites: Applicants sometimes pay a lookalike site and receive nothing. Go directly to the official ROP portal or to a trusted agent.
If an application is refused, read the reason given on the portal. Where the issue is documentary, correct it and apply again. Where there is no clear reason, contact ROP through the portal helpdesk or ask Mapshore to review the case before another fee is spent.
Visa Validity, Extensions and Conditions of Stay
The e-visa has two timers: the period in which you must enter Oman and the length of stay allowed after entry. Both are printed on the visa. Read them carefully, as many travellers assume the first is the stay.
- Entry window: The visa must normally be used within a set period from issue. If you do not travel in time, it lapses and the fee is not refunded.
- Length of stay: A 30-day visa counts from the day you arrive. Plan to leave before the last day to avoid problems from flight delays.
- Extensions: Many 30-day tourist visas can be extended once through ROP while in Oman, for an additional fee. Apply before the visa expires.
- Overstay penalties: Oman charges a fine for each day of overstay and may record the violation, which can affect future entry. Do not risk it.
- No work: The tourist visa does not allow employment, paid or unpaid.
- Land entry from the UAE: Indian passport holders who are crossing by road from the UAE should have the visa in place before reaching the border. Rules for UAE residents are covered on our Oman visa from UAE page.
- Local rules: Respect modest dress at mosques, alcohol rules, photography limits near military sites and drone rules. A drone needs permission in Oman.
Keep a printed copy of the visa for the whole trip. If your phone battery is flat at the immigration desk, a paper copy saves time.
Frequently Asked Questions About the Oman Visa from India
How long does the Oman visa take for Indians?
Most tourist e-visas are decided in a few working days, often within 1 to 3 days. Apply at least a week before travel and avoid Friday submissions and Omani holidays.
What is the Oman visa fee for Indians?
The commonly published government fee for a 30-day single-entry tourist e-visa is around OMR 20, or roughly ₹4,500 to ₹5,500. Other categories cost less or more. Confirm on the ROP portal.
Can I get an Oman visa on arrival as an Indian citizen?
Do not plan on it. Indian passport holders are expected to hold an e-visa before travel, apart from the limited exemptions for holders of certain US, UK, Schengen, Canadian, Australian and Japanese visas. Airlines check this at departure.
Is a hotel booking compulsory?
You should have confirmed accommodation for at least the first nights. If you stay with family, carry the host's address, phone number and a copy of their residence card.
Can I extend my Oman tourist visa?
Many 30-day visas can be extended once, for an additional fee, through ROP before expiry. Extension is not guaranteed, so plan your trip within the original period where you can.
Do I need a bank statement for Oman?
It is not usually uploaded for a tourist e-visa, but carry recent statements and be ready to show means of support if asked.
Can I travel to Oman with a one-way ticket?
This is risky. Oman expects proof of onward or return travel, and airlines can deny boarding without it.
Is the Oman visa valid for the UAE or other GCC countries?
No. The Oman visa is valid for Oman only. The UAE, Qatar and other Gulf states issue their own visas. For Qatar see our Qatar visa page.
Can I apply if my passport expires within 6 months?
The portal and airlines generally expect at least 6 months of validity. Renew your passport first.
Do children need a separate visa?
Yes. Each traveller, including infants, needs their own approved visa or a valid exemption. Upload each child's own passport and photo.
What if my visa is approved but the dates change?
Small date changes within the entry window are usually fine. If the stay length or entry window no longer fits, you may need a new application. Ask before cancelling flights.
Which Oman places can I visit on a tourist visa?
All public areas open to tourists, including Muscat, Nizwa, Wahiba Sands, Wadi Shab, Salalah and Musandam. Some military and restricted zones are off limits.
How Mapshore Helps with Your Oman Visa from Kerala
Mapshore is a Kerala-founded travel agency with offices in Kochi and Calicut and an active team in Dubai. We help Kerala travellers prepare, check and file Oman e-visa applications, and we plan the trip around the visa so that dates, hotels and flights match from the start.
Our visa desk reviews your passport, photo and ticket before anything is uploaded. We catch the issues that most often delay applications: wrong photo format, mismatched names, passport validity and unsuitable visa categories. We confirm the live fee and category on the official portal so you never pay more than the stated government fee plus our clear service charge.
If you are travelling as a family, a group or on a first international trip, we can arrange the full package: flights from Kochi, Calicut, Thiruvananthapuram or Kannur, hotels in Muscat and the interior, desert camps, Musandam dhow cruises and travel insurance. Compare it with your Gulf alternatives such as Qatar, or if your longer-term plan involves the West, see our guides for the Schengen visa and the USA visa. Holding one of those visas may qualify you for the short visa-free route to Oman, so mention it when you contact us.

Apply NowWhy choose Mapshore for your Oman visa from India
We have filed this before
Mapshore has been arranging visas alongside flights and holidays since 2005, so the checklist we hand you is the one that is working at that consulate now.
Your file is checked before it goes in
We read every document against the current requirement list first. Most straightforward refusals come down to a missing statement or a photo at the wrong size, and those are cheap to catch early.
Honest timelines, not best cases
We tell you the turnaround to plan around for your nationality and the season you are travelling in, and we say so early if your dates are too tight to be safe.
A refusal is not the end of it
Bring us the refusal letter. We work out which ground it was refused on, fix that specific thing, and file again rather than resubmitting the same file.
One named person on your file
You deal with the consultant handling your application rather than a queue, and we still pick up when something shifts mid-holiday.
Oman visa questions from India
Yes, Indian passport holders can reapply for an Oman eVisa from India after a refusal by correcting mismatched passport details, photo or accommodation proof cited by the Royal Oman Police. There is no fixed ban from India. Mapshore in Kerala reviews your rejection notice and resubmits a corrected eVisa from India to improve approval chances.
Health insurance valid for your Oman stay is required when Indian travellers apply from India, even though Oman no longer asks for separate COVID cover. Buy an Indian policy covering medical care and repatriation during your Oman trip. Mapshore in Kerala verifies your insurance matches the Royal Oman Police eVisa checklist before submitting from India.
Oman eVisa processing from India via the Royal Oman Police portal is typically one to four working days after you submit a complete application from India, with straightforward cases faster. Delays from India usually come from mismatched passport details or unclear scans. Apply at least a week before travel from India and avoid non refundable bookings early.
From India the Royal Oman Police charges OMR 5 for a 10 day single entry, OMR 20 for a 30 day single entry and OMR 50 for a one year multiple entry eVisa allowing 30 days per visit. Because the rial is pegged, costs are stable in Indian rupees. Agents in Kerala add a service fee on top of the government charge.
From India you need an Indian passport valid at least six months with a blank page, a recent passport photo per Oman specifications, confirmed accommodation in Oman and a return ticket from India. Details must match your Indian passport exactly. Mapshore in Kerala cross checks spelling, dates and scans before lodging the eVisa from India.
From India an Oman tourist eVisa allows 10 days on the short visa, 30 days on the standard single entry or 30 days per visit on the one year multiple entry issued to Indian travellers. The 30 day visa can be extended once for 30 days inside Oman. Overstaying in Oman incurs daily fines and affects future GCC applications from India.
